World Central Kitchen pairs with SFCC to provide meals and feed hungry New Mexicans

According to the Albuquerque Journal, superstar chef Jose Andres, whose World Central Kitchen heads a humanitarian food distribution effort, has paired with Santa Fe Community College to help feed hungry New Mexicans over the next eight weeks. This is the first World Central Kitchen to be situated in the Southwest and the first to be situated in a community college. About 3,000 to 4,000 meals a day will be distributed by a drive-up at the community college.

In addition to culinary students from SFCC, there’s a plethora of big names in Santa Fe food. From the Journal: “Among the culinary stars who have answered the call from SFCC Culinary Arts Program Chef Jerry Dakan are Sllin Cruz, executive chef of Geronimo on Canyon Road; Rocky Durham, executive chef at Sunrise Springs Spa Resort in La Cienega; and David Sellers, program director and executive chef of Albuquerque’s Street Food Institute, who spent 10 years as chef at Santacafé.”

Albuquerque Landlords offer discount on rent and tenants pay it forward

According to KOB4, Steve and Sabring Winder own six rental properties across Albuquerque. They opted recently to give their tenants a discount of $50 per month for the next three months. Not a huge discount, they admit, but something that all their tenants appreciated.

Some so much that they said, “Nah, we don’t need that. Go ahead and give it to someone else in the property.” Just another great example of the ways in which New Mexicans are taking care of one another. Find the entire story here.

Golf Courses Reopen in New Mexico, including this one in Clovis!

They’re happy campers in Clovis again, where they’re allowed to go back to golfing. No riding together in golf carts due to social distancing, but that’s okay with this guy, who’s been golfing since he was five. Check out the entire story here in the Eastern New Mexico News.

Former President George W. Bush reminds us of how strong and wonderful we are, even now

Although it’s not limited in scope to New Mexico, Former President Bush’s video was beautifully spoken and rendered. Reminding us that empathy and simple kindness are essential right now, that our differences are small, and that we are “equally vulnerable and equally wonderful in the sight of God,” this one had me crying in the first two minutes. It is good news that he reminded us especially that we are not partisan in this fight, and that we will rise again with strength and dignity. Find the link to the video here.

Eight New Mexico State Parks Reopened this Weekend

The New Mexico State Parks division did a phased reopen of only eight of the state’s 35 State Parks this past weekend, mostly due to staffing and crowd control. Regardless of the limited number, it was good news for those folks who were able to get out and enjoy the record heat in a nearby lake. State Parks opened were Cimarron Canyon, Brantley Lake, Fort Sumner Lake, Caballo Lake, Cerrillos Hills, Villanueva, Storrie Lake, and my personal favorite, Ute Lake. Best news of all – no park fees until May 15! Get more info at this link: http://www.emnrd.state.nm.us/SPD/
