As some of you may know, I am Bunny’s daughter, assistant, and I Love New Mexico podcast producer. Over the past year, I have also become a regular contributor to this blog. I love doing this because I also love New Mexico and love seeing all the adventures my mom has been on through writing this blog. It also affords me the luxury of getting to share some of my adventures in the Land of Enchantment. So, here’s one, just for fun!

This past Thursday I was in Albuquerque overnight for and event with my family. The event was great, but the next day exploring Albuquerque (a city I lived in for years not too long ago) was the icing on the cake.

We started out the morning walking around Old Town and the plaza. It was a perfect summer morning and a great place to go when you wake up with a two-year-old, maybe a bit earlier than you wanted to. We strolled the old brick streets, bought a few treats, admired old low-riders cruising the square, and contemplated buying a new nativity set from the Christmas Shop.

Then it was time for lunch. We ventured out of Old Town to check out a new restaurant that had been recommended to us. The Tikka Hut has two locations, but we opted for the original on Indian School and Girard.

When we walked in, shortly after they opened at 11am, we were pleasantly surprised by the variety of choices. Everything Indian inspired from falafel to pizza! If you’re having a hard time choosing (like we did), don’t plan on asking the owner, Dennis, what his favorite is.

“I’m too old to have favorites,” he’ll tell you. “They’re all my favorite.”

And really, he’s not wrong, everything we tried was delicious!

I highly recommend the hummus with figs. It is a surprising combo of sweet and savory and went perfectly with the fresh baked pita bread. I tried the Tikka bowl while my wife got the Tikka wrap, both with chicken. They were equally delicious. The only bonus to the Tikka wrap is that there are fries inside, while the Tikka bowl is a little more on the healthier side (it’s a salad). We also enjoyed a taste of both mango and pineapple ice cream (the toddler’s favorite part of course).

Dennis also offers free chips and salsa. There are three types of salsas at the chip bar and they are all great and hot!

Check out the Tikka Hut next time you’re in Albuquerque and looking for something different. They have two locations:

2904 Indian School RD, NE, Albuquerque, NM 87106

1 Central Avenue NW Suite B, Albuquerque, NM 87102
