I Love New Mexico

About all things New Mexican

March - 7 - 2011

I was going through my Santa Fe photos and found these of the La Fonda interior, taken last year when we were selling jewelry at Beadfast (http://www.beadfest.com/beadfest/santafe.cfm).  Selling jewelry was fine, but being in the La Fonda (http://www.lafondasantafe.com/) for three days was the real treat.   We were surrounded by beautiful furniture and architectural detail, so much that we almost began to take it for granted.  But not really. . As the website states: “When Santa Fe was founded by the Spaniards in 1607, records show an inn – or fonda – was among the first businesses established at this location. By  [ Read More ]

We had cousin weekend recently in Santa Fe – my birthday was a great excuse for nine of us to get together, stay in a gorgeous house on Bishop’s Lodge road, eat at Tomasita’s and Del Charro (posts soon), and do what I do every time I’m in Santa Fe – walk through the Cathedral.  The Catholics showed up in Santa Fe in 1598, 12 years before the city was founded.  Franciscan Friars accompanied Spanish settlers who had traveled north from Mexico.  Then in 1610, the same year the city was founded, a Catholic church was erected on the site where  [ Read More ]

It’s summertime, and the living is easy, and once again, I get to go to Santa Fe and spend the weekend on the plaza with my best pal, Sabrina Colson, and my daughter and the Plaza Cafe and the La  Fonda and the Cathedral bells and the kettle corn and the frito pies from the Five & Dime. . .everyone should get to live like this. We’ll be selling at the Girls, Inc. 38th annual Arts & Crafts Show.  All booth fees benefits Girls, Inc., an organization whose motto is”Inspiring all girls to be strong, smart and bold.”  (www.girlsincofsantafe.org)    Love that.   [ Read More ]

If you’re lucky enough to live in New Mexico, there’s almost always something to look forward to – arts and crafts shows, wine festivals, pueblo feast days, museum or gallery openings – even basketball tournaments.  And this weekend is no exception for me.  Beginning on Thursday, March 18, 2010, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., and then again on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., I get to attend the Santa Fe Bead Fest(http://www.beadfest.com/beadfest/santafe.cfm) with my best pal Sabrina, where we’ll set up shop at the La Fonda (www.lafondasantafe.com) just off the Santa Fe Plaza and sell  [ Read More ]
