I Love New Mexico

About all things New Mexican

I just read what I posted last Sunday, and I damn near made myself cry.  Okay, I did make myself cry.  Last week I wrote a blog post on how both our high school basketball teams were on their way to state tournament, and the last line was “Hopefully next week at this time I’ll be posting on how we won the championship games at the Pit” Well, guess what.  I’m here, after five days in Albuquerque and several heart-stopping quarters of basketball, after two meals at the Frontier and one evening at the dollar movies, after countless hugs from old friends  [ Read More ]

One of my first blog posts was about the Frontier Restaurant in Albuquerque (http://bit.ly/ef5S3P) because it is, bar none, one of my favorite places to eat in New Mexico.  Consistently good food, kitschy atmosphere, and the best conversations of my life.  Yesterday a Quay County friend of mine said they’d been to the Frontier for the first time and loved it, but had no idea what to order – the menu is chock full of choices, and just how (other than the mandatory cinnamon roll) do you choose? I’m sitting in the airplane in Lubbock trying to get out to NYC – it’s looking pretty sketchy, but in my down time, I thought you might enjoy this essay I wrote several years ago after I got to return to New Mexico from North Carolina.  Enjoy!  FREE AND EATING I had such high hopes for getting thin after this divorce. The last one got me down to that ultra-thin, gaunt look – the look where you get the ultimate compliment (Yeah, I know strong and healthy is the new cool look, but really, let’s be honest. . .), that look  [ Read More ]
