Living out here in the sticks makes you especially thankful for your Netflix account.  There’s no video store within 30 miles, so when my red envelope arrives and we have a free evening, it’s a bit of an event.  A few days ago, Crazy Heart showed up.  Now, I love Jeff Bridges and Maggie Gyllenhaal and everyone agrees Colin Farrell is one of the cutest guys in creation, but when Robert Duvall showed up in the middle of the movie as Bad Blake’s best friend, I was especially pleased.  Great characters, great story line, really great movie. As previously posted, I spent the weekend selling jewelry at the Albuquerque Wine Festival, which is it’s own post.  Great weather, a view of the Sandias from our booth, new friends, and really good wine.  It truly didn’t seem like work – I could get used to this type of direct marketing! As you all know by now, I’m a sucker for a good book.  I recently read a review for La Ranfla & Other Stories by Martha Egan and thought, “Now that’s the sort of book I should read, and if I like it, it would be a great blog post.”  I gotta tell you, people, you’re a great excuse to buy a new book (like I ever needed one).  And this book is great fun. Sometimes you get really lucky at the bookstore.  Sometimes you’re wandering around in Hastings looking for a couple of books to get you through the next week and you pick up something with an interesting cover, read the description on the back, and then carry it around for 10 or 15 minutes so that you can read the back again, and then you decide this might be the one, and then you carry it to the cash register and pay and stick the book in your purse and carry it home.  And sometimes you get really lucky.  Because sometimes you  [ Read More ]
