What holiday event in Albuquerque tends to sell out in the first hour? The City of Albuquerque’s annual luminaria tour, which is held on Christmas Eve every year 2017 marks the 53rd year of this wonderful event and tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 24, and, just like a Grateful Dead concert, they’re guaranteed to go fast. Buy tickets here: http://www.luminariatour.com/#tickets

The tour last about 45 minutes and involves traveling on a City Bus through Old Town and Country Club neighborhoods where every residence is lit by traditional luminarias. Tickets are affordable, which makes this a favorite family tradition for many New Mexicans. Adult tickets are $3.50, children and seniors are $2.20.

After the tour, spend a few minutes walking around the Old Town Plaza. My family and I always then head to the local cemetery at Edith and Menaul, where families decorate graves with luminarias. It’s a sea of small lights on Christmas Eve and a wonderful way to finish out the holiday.
